Chinese Herbal Medicine Ointments

Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) ointments are special herbal mixtures applied directly to the skin to treat various conditions.

Here’s what’s important to know:

  1. What They Are

Ointments are thick, often oily mixtures made by combining medicinal herbs with a fat or wax base (like sesame oil, beeswax, or animal fats).

They are used externally—meaning you rub them on your skin, not take them internally.

If skin issue flares up, prescribed Chinese herbal medicine will be added.

  2. What They Treat

    • Injuries: bruises, sprains, fractures (especially martial arts injuries)

    • Skin issues: eczema, psoriasis, burns, cuts, ulcers

    • Pain conditions: arthritis, back pain, muscle aches

    • Infections and inflammation: boils, skin infections

  3. How They Work (in TCM theory)

    • Move Qi and Blood: Improve circulation to heal faster and remove pain.

    • Clear Heat and Toxins: Treat inflammation, redness, swelling, or infection.

    • Resolve Stagnation: Break up clotted blood or “stuck” energy after injuries.

    • Nourish Yin or Yang: Help rebuild tissue or strengthen weak areas.

With years on studying and researching clinical historically tested and proven Chinese medicine prescription and integrating with her own clinical practice and experience, Dr. Guorong Du developed current three Chinese medicine ointments.
